(Item # : Simrad_AP27_Autopilot)
By Simrad
Model : AP27
Simrad AP27 has operational capability and software is identical to
that of AP26. Used as a standalone control or as a second station, the AP27
offers full control in the cockpit or on the flybridge.
The brains and muscles behind the pilot
The Autopilot Computer
The autopilot computer contains advanced software algorithms and
is the brain of the system. These incorporate position and navigation data from
the GPS chartplotter and wind, speed and depth data from the instrument system.
The output is a smooth proportional control of the rudder with the outmost
precision providing excellent steering performance in any sea condition with a
minimum of power consumption.
The Autopilot Compass
The performance of the heading sensor is essential for the
autopilot. The best steering algorithms cannot compensate for an unstable and
inaccurate heading reference. The AP series of autopilots come with the latest
generation of Mini Gyro (rate compass) as standard to offer you the best
steering performance available.
Remote controls
Remote controls are very useful auxiliary equipment for the
autopilot. You can power steer the boat from any wanted location, hand held or
fix mount, using buttons or a lever. Remote course change and full follow-up
control is also available depending on the model. By adding the analog Simrad
IS15 Rudder display you have an elegant rudder angle indicator to supplement
your remote.
Drive units and hydraulic pumps
Simrad develops powerful drive units based on long experience
from the rough conditions in the North Atlantic Ocean as well as the high
humidity and high temperatures in Florida and other tropical areas. They drive
the rudder with precision and endurance through the toughest conditions and on
the longest crossings. Several models are available to fit the various types and
sizes of boat and steering systems. The Simrad range of reversible hydraulic
pumps is easily adaptable to the boat's hydraulic hand steering system and
allows the autopilot to have smooth and precise control.
Rudder feedback
Simrad rudder feedback units are high resolution units which
contribute to gentle yet accurate steering that characterise the Simrad
autopilots. They are rugged units designed to withstand the environment. Though
Simrad now offers the virtual rudder feedback VRF™ for outboards and stern drive
boats up to 40', it is may be necesary to display rudder angle on your
autopilot.
Linear drives
Hydraulic and mechanical linear drives are available for
sailboats. When attached to the quadrant or tiller they have direct control of
the rudder and the effect of slack in cables and wires are avoided. For stern
drive boats with power assisted steering Simrad offers a special linear drive
with built in rudder feedback and several mounting kits.
